Gay marriage fight, is it really over?

After the ruling of Supreme court, gay marriage has been legalized in 5 more states bringing the total number of states to 24 (along with DC). But the real question remains, will gay couples get the same treatment as normal couples? In my opinion, we have a long way to go. I remember one of my friend (who is pretty much "educated") from Texas telling me that he did not move to California and rejected a job offer because he feared that his child might end up being gay.
Many people still believe that homosexuality is some sort of mental disease, instead of an adult simply making a choice (like choosing arts over medicine at school). These reservations has long held back gay rights, but with the recent developments I do expect that things will change for better and homosexuals would be given same status as normal couples.
